Reuters reported seeing clouds of tear gas, followed by a gun fight in which three protesters and one policeman were killed. The police accused the protesters of firing the tear gas and claimed that they had come under fire from grenades and a sniper on a nearby rooftop. All four of those killed died from gunshot wounds, according to the Erawan

Bank Runs Spread To Thailand

Thailand's Government Savings Bank (GSB) president admitted that clients withdrew 30bn Baht (around $1bn) in a single-day last week and Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) and Krungthai Bank (KTB), although of a much smaller magnitude, have also seen withdrawal spikes of similar magnitude according to The Bangkok Post. The 'bank run' comes after speculation that cash at the state-run banks are being used by the government (which is in turmoil) to fund farmers (who have not received their 'promised' rice subsidies of over 130 bn Baht). Withdrawal requests are met with banks warning that there were insufficient funds at the time due to many depositors withdrawing cash.

Thaïlande: un mort et 24 blessés dans des affrontements à Bangkok

Une personne a trouvé la mort et 24 autres ont été blessées dans des affrontements entre policiers et manifestants (...) un policier a été tué d'une balle dans la tête, tandis que 14 autres membres des forces de l'ordre ainsi qu'une dizaine de manifestants ont été blessés lors des heurts qui se sont produits dans le centre historique de Bangkok, à proximité du quartier gouvernemental. Des milliers de manifestants, qui réclament depuis plusieurs mois la démission de la première ministre Yingluck Shinawatra, assiègent actuellement le quartier général du gouvernement thaïlandais. Vendredi, les forces antiémeutes ont dégagé les tentes abandonnées par les manifestants et les barricades de pneus et de sacs de sables érigées autour du bâtiment. Les militants ont reconstruit leurs barricades immédiatement après l'intervention.
